Submitted By: Leesa Ross, MA, CNMT, PET, RT(N)(CT), Nuclear Medicine Technology Program
In August 2017, Chattanooga State Community College’s Nuclear Medicine Technology Program graduated 5 students from Chattanooga, TN, Jackson, TN and Huntsville, AL areas. Currently, the program has 14 students scheduled to graduate in August 2018. The students are located in Chattanooga, TN; Jackson, TN; Bowling Green, KY, Atlanta, GA, and Huntsville, AL.
The students plan on attending the Nuclear Medicine Technologist of Tennessee (NMTT) meeting and Student Registry Review Workshop March 23-25, 2018 in Chattanooga, TN. To attend this meeting they perform fund raising activities. This year, they participated in the College’s Octoberfest celebration. They sold food and competed in the costume and booth contest. The students won second place for their booth—the theme for Octoberfest was “Clue” and their booth was “It Was the Mad Scientist in the Laboratory with Radiation”. It was a lot of fun and the cash prize went toward the meeting. The students will also be selling nuclear medicine themed t-shirts soon, so if anyone is interested, let someone in the program know.
Each year the NMTT accepts poster submissions from each of the schools in Tennessee. Prizes are awarded for first, second and third place. This year, it is the hope that Chattanooga State students will be selected to present and possibly win either a presentation or poster award. The Program submitted three abstracts for judging.
In April, six students will be traveling to London, England as part of a Study Abroad program in conjunction with Regis College and Indiana University. Please attend the SNMMI Annual Meeting Educator’s Forum to learn more about this opportunity.
The program was previously a post degree certificate program; however, an associate degree track was recently added and will accept the first class summer 2018. For more information regarding the program, please contact Leesa Ross at (423) 697-3331 or Dusty York at (423) 697-3335.
